Restoring a Classic: Aston Martin V8 Series 3 Sports Saloon with Rare 5-Speed Manual Transmission

This Aston Martin V8 Series 3 Sports Saloon, which we have received for restoration, is equipped with a highly sought after 5-speed manual transmission, as confirmed by copies of the factory records. The car is a true classic, with a 5,340cc DOHC V8 engine and 4 dual-throat Weber carburetors producing 300bhp at 6,000rpm. It also features 4-wheel independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes, making it a true driver's car.
This particular car was delivered new to Canada and features a beautiful, original color combination of Cricket White over Blue, giving it a classic and elegant look. It's described as a brute in a suit, with a stunning performance that fully justified its claim as the fastest production car in the world during its time.
According to copies of Aston Martin's factory build records, this V8 Sport Saloon was hand built at Aston Martin's Newport Pagnell plant during the summer of 1978, just months before the introduction of the Series 4. The car was built for the Canadian market and equipped with a left-hand-drive steering arrangement, making it a unique and desirable find. It also comes with documentation of its factory build records, adding to its provenance and value.
Although the early history of this Aston Martin is not recorded, it appears to have remained in Canada for the first 34 years of its life, largely in the Ontario province. The car was purchased by the vendor in 2012 with 103,000 miles on the odometer, and has been driven under 100 miles in the past decade. In strikingly original and unmolested condition, with the exception of an upgraded stereo and CD changer, the car has been on static display for the majority of its present ownership. We believe it's a true gem in its current condition and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to restore it to its former glory.
This car is the ultimate expression of a velvet-gloved fist, equally comfortable burning rubber or rolling up to a black tie event. We look forward to bringing it back to life, preserving its classic design and performance for future generations to enjoy.
